I keep starting posts and not finishing them.
I have things to say.
I start strong but I can't get through to the end, to the final thought or statement.
36 unfinished posts sit in my draft folder.
I have things to say...
I just can't find the energy, the creativity, the drive to finish my thoughts.
That is today's truth.
Stories of life with family, friends, God, church and everything in between. Welcome to my journey.

Formation of a tribute
On Sunday, I will stand up in front of a crowd of family, friends, acquaintances and people I've never met before and talk about my Dad.
I've been thinking and praying about these words for weeks, but honestly, I've been thinking and praying about these words for four years. Call it a hunch, call it facing reality, call it whatever you need, but I've been preparing for this day for awhile.
The last few weeks, as I have driven to work and driven home, I've been using the drive to talk out loud. In the days when I was occasionally called upon to sermonize, I found the way I solidified my thoughts was to just start talking...if you know me at all, that's actually opposite of what one would think about my writing process...it's worked, though!
Except this time it's been harder. I have things to say...I have so much to say...but the clarity has been missing, the twist, the part that makes this go from a daughter blathering on about her father to a tribute. I couldn't grab that one thing that would make it all come together. That one thing that would have made my Dad come up, wrap his arm around my shoulders and say, "You did good, kiddo."
This morning I woke up and suddenly the missing piece had appeared. I grabbed my computer and the words started to flow...so did the tears...and since I'm being honest, the snot. I wrote and cried for two hours. Yo Momma came in a one point and I snapped at her (and apologized later) and I wrote and I cried and swiped at my nose and finally, finally, I think I have it.
Sunday is going to be really hard...but I think, at the end of the day, my Dad would throw is arm around my shoulders, pull me into his side and say, "You did good, kiddo." and really, nothing else matters.

What to say
I get to this page, lately, and have a bazillion things I think about posting. I start a post, my mind wanders, the words don't come out easily and eventually I hit the "save" and "close" buttons and journey elsewhere. I have things to say until I start writing, it seems, then the words dry up. They just float away. Maybe I don't really have anything to say...
But I do have things to say. I have things to say about politics, the church, family, forgiveness, the bus, the light rail, the weather, friends, cake baking, weddings, babies, health care, traveling, hopes, dreams, relationships, children, faith, hope, grace, love, imagination, evangelism, religion, depression, rats, prayer, books, lying, secrets, work Diet Coke vs. Diet Pepsi and how G.W. Bailey on "Major Crimes" and "The Closer" before that and "M.A.S.H." a way long time before that reminds me of my Boompa every time I see him.
Yep, I do have things to say...and one day they will make their way to the surface and move through my mind to my typing fingers to the keyboard to this page and instead of "save" and "close" I will hit "publish".

A book
Okay, so here's the deal. Awhile back Opinionated Friend asked if I would be willing to be a part of a year long blog where 6 single women in ministry wrote a blog post, at least once a month, about life. The idea was to read each other's stories, encourage each other and at the end of the year see what we had and maybe see if it could be published. I thought it a good idea and jumped on board...never really thinking about the publishing part.
For a year, I wrote blog posts on there. At the end of the year I had traveled a great distance in life, had some amazing and hard experiences and had made a major life change. Opinionated Friend came back from her Roman Adventure and began to compile all that we had written (only 4 of us really kept it going) and started seeking a place for it to be published. I'm going to admit, I'm not a very good friend. I was skeptical about the chances of it being published. Sure, I had written about my life but who would really want to read it? Opinionated Friend pressed on, though. She edited, compiled, searched out publishing houses, went to a seminar on getting books published and has spent hours and hours working to get this blog-book together.
The result is this:

IT'S A BOOK!
Available only on Amazon, only for Kindle or other e-readers (IE, there is no hard copy book available). I'm extremely proud of Opinionated Friend and all the work she has done and glad to have been a part of this project. I can't take credit for anything other than having thoughts and feelings and writing them on a blog...which is now a book. Crazy.
