Dear Bachelorette Emily--part two

Really?!  Really?!  I'm not buying it.

That is all.

Dear Bachelorette Emily,

I have been sucked into the world that is the Bachelor and Bachelorette by some friends with whom I wish to spend time.  I would normally spend my Monday night watching NCIS reruns and checking out the latest information on Disneyland at Mouseplanet.com, perfectly content to let the Bachelor or Bachelorette never to cross my path.

Alas, I like my friends and want to spend time with them, so I find myself sitting for two hours as I watch you, Emily, "date" 20 different men.  I use the term "men" loosely, as some whom have wound up in your company are merely boys playing dress-up.

Now, this is only week three in Bachelorette world.  We went through round one, which was excruciatingly boring as 25 men came to your hometown to woo you.  Those of us sitting on the couch couldn't keep track of all the men at first.  We came up with nicknames for them.  Helicopter boy, egg dude, spiky hair, bad hair, Brazilian, Mushroom man, etc.  We were very happy to see you get rid of some of those guys.

Round two was the first "dates".  Wow.  First off, who uses a whisk to mix up chocolate chip cookies?  Methinks you don't bake very much, Miss Emily.  Ryan was sweet, we liked him.  The group date was cute, we all felt bad for Charlie.  The last date was just weird.  Seriously, a clock that you put wishes in with a guy you later dumped?  Strange.  Then came the 7 page letter from Ryan...he's not so sweet anymore.  He is now getting creepy.  But then that whole "meet and greet" time is just awkward anyway.  I don't know how you could possibly get to know any of these guys well, at all.

Here we are, though, at week three.  Some men have been eliminated and the vying for your attention has begun in earnest.  I can't remember who you dated first last night.  It was fine, though, seriously, enough with the dancing in the street with the latest country singer/band.  The group date was fascinating.  Your friends definitely asked some interesting questions and one of them needs to be watched closely (really, really closely).  She was totally hitting on Sean.  Take that under advisement.  And Ryan, he's getting too possessive too quickly.  Not liking him so much anymore.  Your date to Dollywood (which was eerily empty) with Arie was nice.  He's a nice guy, seems safe...but then it's too soon to tell.

Then came that meet and greet time.  We all cheered when Egg guy gave you the egg to smash.  That was good.  We all agreed that Brazilian guy needed to go...I have a Brazilian friend, that was not a communication issue, he knew exactly what he was saying.  The one I wanted to yell at you about, though, was the one you questioned and did.nothing.about.

Emily, when a guy tells you to basically shut up because you are talking too much (when he hasn't let you get a word in at.all.) the guy needs to go.  Helicopter boy needs.to.go.  He is slimy, too sure of himself and has said to your face that he always wanted his OWN child first.  HIS.OWN.CHILD.  You have a daughter that you say you are putting first...prove it!  Be the strong woman you have shown yourself to be in moments and drop his ass!

Sincerely,
A disgusted-with-myself-for-getting-hooked-into-this-show viewer.

Just gotta laugh

There are moments in life when things just become comical.  I can be completely together, dignified, hold myself well most of the time and then the awkward, geeky, clumsy girl emerges...oh that clumsy girl.

Last night after a day of productivity which included a lot of laundry and hanging up the new office-y clothes in preparation for the beginning of my new job, I jumped up to put one final load of laundry in the dryer.  Somehow my left big toe, got caught on my right pant leg.  For one moment I was sure that I was going down, that I would head into my new job with either a black eye or stitches.  I managed to keep myself up right but that big toe...it's not so happy with me.  It isn't broken but it is definitely strained.  Yowza.

It would have been nice if clumsy girl stopped there.  She didn't.  This morning I went into the bathroom to find that I had forgotten to replace the roll of toilet paper.  I've tried to be pretty sneaky about hiding rolls of toilet paper in the cupboards and other places so that there is always ONE around when I really need it.  I'm pretty sure that I brought in multiple rolls the last time I needed toilet paper.  This morning, as I reached into the cupboard in the near dark to get a replacement roll, something went crashing to the ground.  Finding no extra roll, I reached down to pick up whatever had fallen out of the cupboard and came up with a small bottle of special laundry detergent...or rather I came up with the small plastic bottle cracked open and the special laundry detergent gushed onto the floor and down my leg.  Lovely.

My bathroom smells now (hopefully it won't trigger a migraine) but the bathmat is realllllllllyyyyyy clean.  And I brought in three extra rolls of toilet paper from the garage this afternoon.

Commercials

There are a few commercials out there right now that cause me to yell at the TV.  Gain and their "gooder" and Jello with the parents who terrorize their children come to mind immediately.  Incorrect English and awful parents, quite the combo.  I know, I know, I could just turn off the TV.  I don't.  Stop judging me.

There is one commercial that is old but still makes me giggle every time.  At staff meeting last week we had a discussion about Cadbury eggs and I stated that I loved the commercial where the animals are "trying out" to be the spokesperson.  No one on staff had seen the commercial, so I found it (thank you YouTube!) and emailed it out.  So far Pastor E. likes the lion or maybe the cat.   Children's Director A. shares my affection for the cat and Choir Director J. has yet to respond.

Here's the commercial...what say you?  And while you are at it, how do you feel about said Cadbury eggs?  Fabulous Office Admin and I say a hearty "Yes!" (which resulted in a fantastic surprise on our inbox's the next day).

Technology--updated edition

I love technology...until it doesn't work. Yesterday I was trying to save an appointment in my cell phone when all of a sudden the phone cycled off...and then on...and then off...and then on...you get the idea. I took the battery out, checked the contacts, put it back and tried again. Same thing.

Today I took it to the Cell Phone Store and the nice guy behind the counter listened to me, watched the phone cycle on and off, checked the warranty and handed me the phone number for the warranty center. 20 minutes later a new phone AND a new battery will be here within 2 days.

Which is fine...but for just a moment I panicked...what am I going to do without my phone for two whole days...three including today?! Three and half including yesterday! Nobody text me!!! The helpful person at the warranty center asked if I had saved all my contacts on the phone or the sim card...I don't know. And then she asked about pictures...agh!!! That wouldn't be an issue if the cute micro memory card I bought would actually STAY IN the phone! Oh well. Life goes on.

I love technology...when it works.

Update: Within 24 hours the new phone arrived. Helpful person at the warranty center clearly said "white phone with red" just like the one that I am sending back...I received a red phone with black. No big deal, I actually prefer that. What I would really like, though, is the back part of the phone that holds the battery in. Another call will be made. In the meantime, red replacement phone is sporting a white battery cover. Making my own fashion statement, one phone at a time.

Song running through my head

I don't want to work today, work today, work today.
I don't want to work today, I want to go back to bed.

Proof that I'm a Californian

We had an earthquake this morning about 10:45am. The online newspaper said it registered about a 4.3 not huge but not small. I felt it. Stood in my room, feeling the earth shake and waiting to see if I needed to move to a doorway and the earthquake stopped. I went about my business.

It is 3pm and I was just reading the online newspaper...and remembered "Oh, yeah, we had an earthquake this morning! Huh, wasn't that big."

Hello, my name is Brittany and I live in California. Earthquakes are no big deal. That is all.

It's that time again!

If you don't have one of these...
or something similarly wonderful that will change on it's own, don't forget to "Spring Ahead" tonight! Daylight Savings Time is upon us and I don't want you to miss church in the morning! ;)

Before you hit forward...

I love email. It makes my life so much happier to be able to communicate via email rather than talking on the telephone. I don't, however, appreciate the email forwards.

There are certain people in my life that deluge my inbox with forwards about trivial stuff all.the.time. Love the people, don't love the forwards. Chain mail forwards are awful and I usually hit delete without reading them. Guess I'm gonna have bad luck for the next bazillion years. The ones that really drive me crazy, though, are the ones that are supposedly to "help you" but really are meant to scare people. Watch out when leaving the mall! Don't roll down your car window! The cops aren't really the cops! Yeah, don't really love those. Those are usually sent by women to other women because, well, we fall for these things.

My best Internet friends to help decipher fact from fiction are two sites, www.snopes.com and www.urbanledgends.about.com I use them all the time and guess what??!! About 99% of those emails are false. False, I say!

So, my blog reading buddies, the next time your receive one of those emails before you hit forward, take the time to go to the websites above and check the email out for yourself. Your friends will be glad that you did.

Sunday's ramblings

It's too warm outside. I walked out of the garage toward the front of the house and this warm gust of wind made me think that it's summer time. Seriously. Which bums me out 'cuz I just got one of my Christmas presents in the mail, fabulous sweatshirt that says "Washington D.C." on it and I really want to wear it but it's too stinkin' warm.

I wore it tonight anyway but sweat my way through R.A.W. I haven't really worn a pullover hooded sweatshirt in a few years...switched to zip ups and all my other sweatshirts don't have hoods. But putting this one on with jeans and tennis shoes reminds me of my college days and makes me feel good. It's strange how something as silly as a sweatshirt can take me back a couple of years...or a decade. Geesh.

Speaking of college, if Fuller accepts my late registration, I am back to being a grad student again. I've been trying to work my way through their Certificate of Youth Ministry. It's been slow going but there are only two courses I need to take, so I signed up for a Distance Learning Course. Which means I'm going to need to study again, take tests and listen to lectures. Can you feel the excitement rolling off of me? No? Neither can I. I like learning, I don't like tests and studying stresses me out. But I'm determined to get this Certificate done! The chunk that it's taking out of my savings account is hefty but that's what I get for attempting to feel qualified for the position I'm in.

The weekend has been pretty non-eventful. I've done a lot of laundry, shredded a bunch of mail (so many American Express applications I can't believe it!), thrown stuff away, cleaned off some spaces, put other stuff in spaces and spent a lot of time pondering the lack of entertainment on television. After pretty much going non-stop since Thanksgiving, it has been nice to have a down weekend...though I'm going to pay for it tomorrow 'cuz I told my housemate that I would make sure the ornaments were off the Christmas tree and I didn't do that. She comes home tomorrow...that's the first thing on my list for the morning!

I've been watching way too much TV

Being sick has it's advantages and disadvantages. Advantage: time off. Disadvantage: time off being sick. All I've had brain power for is to stare blankly the TV and fall asleep, amongst the whole trying to breathe thing. Today I realized that I was feeling much better because I had a thought during that TV time.

I've been watching those Makeover shows on TV. Two particular ones.
This one:
and this one:

I did a little digging and the first one the individual has to send in a request themselves to be on the show. The second one friends nominate them and the individual gets bombarded by the hosts and have to make a split second decision about whether or not to be made over.

Now, I can understand in the second show a persons reluctance to hear that their wardrobe is not up to par, needs to be thrown out, how their hair is bad and needs to be changed, etc., etc. (though sometimes the one host could be a little more gentle). They didn't really ask for this to happen to them. I have sympathy for the person.

The first show, though, I have no sympathy for them. If you've put a request in for someone to come in and revamp your wardrobe and style then ditch the attitude! You've ASKED for it! Geesh.

Yep, I'm feeling better.
